Athletic coaches and educators are in a special position to support healthy behavior and prevent youth substance use. They have a special relationship with athletes and students and their influence should not be underestimated. They are often role models in the eyes of youth, so when they talk to players and students about the dangers of alcohol and drugs, the message is more effective.
HLC SUPP provides coaches and teachers with the resources and training to help you recognize the signs of youth substance use, guidelines about how to address the problem, and tips to support healthy behavior.
SCHOOL POLICIES: IT'S NOT FAIR
Only 50% of Lincoln County high school students feel that their school enforces the rules fairly (2017 MIYHS). While you can't please everyone, we know that it is important to have a strong school substance use policy as a foundation. We can work with your school to review your current policies, and identify opportunities to strengthen your efforts to keep your students and your school healthy and substance free. CLASSROOM PROGRAM OPTIONS
Sometimes, the best way to provide youth with information about drugs and alcohol is directly in the classroom. There are several evidence-based programs that can be delivered either in or out of the classroom for all ages. We can work with you to identify the best option to meet your needs, and connect you with resources to help you implement the programs successfully. Contact us to learn more.
